PooPeeee

THE TARUN TALKS

When my stand in pediatrician, Dr. Vasuki Thangamuthu asked my parents about the number of wet diapers, number of Ps and Poops I had registered, they got stumped! They were not expecting this question at all. Without worrying about the embarassment, my mom blurted out that they did not count at the same time my dad could just not hold back what he was about to say, but he refined it to "I think it is 4 pees and 2 poops". The number was not entirely inaccurate, but it was only partial, the ones he accounted for. The rest of it was missing. So, the doc said it was insufficient and began quizzing on color of the liquid/solid. Okay it is getting too gross and I'll stop. She asked us to give her numbers averaged over the next 7 days during the next visit.

My dad began a chart for the purpose coding time and counts. My dad had half considered a cryptic coding so that visitors would not get disgusted. But they went for the user friendly direct simplified approach. The numbers were more than 2.5 times the estimate my dad gave the doc. No wonder she spent a lot of time talking about it. The averages stayed solid over the days to give a comfortable account consigned to memory.

While we are at the topic, let me record the following contrast between Huggies "N" & Pampers "Swaddlers". I've tried both and have a strong opinion for other babies reading….

Huggies "N"

+
  • Cool care for Umbilical Cord, mostly a hype though and a non factor now.
  • For a skinny baby like me, this is a better fit.
  • Keeps me interested, it is a whole different animal (a la Frontier Airlines). Each diaper has an animal shape of a bear or a cat, etc.
-
  • Not too comfy.
  • Sometimes there is a spill, too exact a fit. I am uncertain whether to pin this on my parents for lack of expertise.
  • Slightly expensive. Perhaps there are better online deals. This size is not available in Costco.

Pampers "Swaddlers"

+
  • Good care for Umbilical Cord, although it does not matter now.
  • Very Comfortable, multiple layers of padding for additional comfort.
  • Slightly cheaper than competitive brands for this size.
  • No spills observed on this model. Do my parents just handle this one better or is it due to this brand, I am unsure.
-
  • Loose fit for a skinny newborn like me. Perhaps it is better for other babies reading.
  • Sometimes there is a spill, too exact a fit. I am uncertain whether to pin this on my parents for lack of expertise.
  • Makes me look like a Pampers' model. All diapers come with standard embellishment of the Pampers' logo. No animals here.
When I move to a larger size, I may not see Pampers, coz it is not available in Costco and hence not cost effective, but for now, despite its negatives, my vote goes to Pampers! I did not hide my feelings on this ;-)

Pampers' Wipes also gets my clear vote vs Costco's home brew Kirkland! There is just no comparison. While Pampers has no shortcomings except cost, it has clear advantages in the right moistness, better separation between wipes, attactive container. Kirkland wipes go dry within no time but the container is compact and easy to carry. Thus it has cosmetic advantages but functional shortcomings.

Disclaimer: I have not been bribed by Pampers to say the above.

  1. Sell it to Pampers anyways. It’ll make a good poster ad for them. :)

  2. Pampers suits girls and Huggies suits boys. This is how the saying goes. After many parents vouched for it, my parents tried it on me and then I tended to agree with them. Probably as you grow, you will tend to agree too :)

  3. Aunt J,
I gotta shorten it to an ad format and then I’ll try to sell it to Pampers for a life long free supply of diapers :-)

    Atul,
Are you suggesting I have to be a girl to like Pampers? Try it on buddy, you’ll love it ;-)
